READER QUESTION from Tatyana:
I need advice on decorating our master bedroom. We’re using dressers as side tables, but they seem too tall for our platform bed. If we remove the legs, will we lose some aesthetic appeal? Should I place art above the headboard or above the side tables? The room features vaulted, high ceilings and completely white walls, which I want to keep. The bed and dresser drawers have a weathered wood finish. I’d like to maintain natural colors with accents of gold and light blue. Please disregard the lamps; we’ll be replacing them soon.
Bedrooms can be deceptively challenging to decorate. They often feature expansive walls, particularly above the headboard. Since bedrooms are typically private spaces, it’s tempting to fill them with leftover decor or furniture. However, spending time in a room you dislike can negatively impact your mood. While visual appeal is essential, the ideal design balances beauty with practicality. Take the gold swing arm lamps, for instance. These are not only stunning but also free up valuable nightstand space while providing adjustable lighting for reading or creating a soft ambiance.

Decorative Storage.
Vertical storage is a fantastic way to utilize large wall areas. Floating shelves are both attractive and functional. They occupy considerable visual space while maintaining a clean, organized look. Plus, they provide additional storage for displaying cherished items and incorporating gold accents to complement the overall color scheme.

Color and Texture Harmony.
To create a welcoming atmosphere, I emphasized texture throughout the room. Mixing high-texture elements with sleek, mid-century modern furniture creates a pleasing contrast. This is particularly important in a bedroom, where texture prevents the space from feeling sterile or uninviting. A woven macrame wall hanging makes a striking statement and introduces the requested blue color. The deep indigo duvet adds a rich color accent and texture that harmonizes with the wall art. Finally, a soft rug grounds the space and unifies the color palette.
