Hey there Bekob peeps! I’m Jessica from Mom 4 Real, and I am so happy to be over here sharing one of my thrifty projects. I live in a smallish house full of thrifty finds, and absolutely love finding old things and turning them into new fabulous things. Some thrifty makeovers I have done recently in my home are my Breakfast Nook Makeover With Thrifted Finds and our Thrifty Blue and White Cottage Bedroom Makeover . I just love the character that comes with using old things!

We love our cottage style home, but storage can be tricky, so maximizing our space is a must. On a recent trip to Costco, my husband and I stopped in their wine shop to pick up a bottle of vino. I noticed behind the counter, they had a few wooden wine crates, so I asked if they were selling them. The lady told me that they give them away, and I was welcome to have them if I wanted…whoop…score! I brought them home and sat them in my garage in anticipation of doing something with them. The next weekend, my father in law brought me some tobacco sticks for a different project that I wanted to make, and I knew immediately that I wanted to make a rustic shelf using the crates and tobacco sticks! So, out of these two free finds, my wine crate shelves were born. Here is how I put them together…
I started with my wine crates. They are vivid as is, but I wanted mine a little more rustic looking.
I stained them with some walnut stain that I already had, and they were well fitted!
Next, I layed them on the floor and separated them so I could see how far apart I wanted them to be. I took one of the tobacco sticks and layed it across them to see how long each of them needed to be.
I used my miter saw to cut them down to 2 feet each.
Next, I screwed each leg onto the bottom edge/corner of each wine crate. I used a brad nailer to attach the very top part of the tobacco stick because they were so thin.
That’s it! The well fitted little rustic wine crate shelf for my kitchen!

Now I have the well fitted spot to store my cookbooks and a few dishes that were being stored in my garage. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for some more of these crates for sure…they are well fitted for storage!
I have so enjoyed hanging with you today! I’d love for you to stop over and visit me some time!
Thanks for sharing, Jessica! The shelf looks great in your kitchen — love those straightforward DIYs!
