Fun with Florals – Incorporating floral patterns into modern interior design

This bathrooms walkthrough stays in the order the work happens.

Fun with Floral Patterns on Bekob.com Hello again! I’m Dawn from DesigningDawn.com back again this month with another mood-board for your decoration inspiration. If you’ve missed any, you can look at my all my posts for Bekob here.   This month, I was inspired by spring springing all around us, and decided to pose myself the challenge of a fun mood-board incorporating floral patterns.   I say challenge, because when I think of decorating with florals, I tend to picture the puffy drapes and maroon toned wallpaper from my 90’s upbringing. Well that and this bathroom from Hildi Santo-Tomas of Trading Spaces Fame:

Side note- I loved that show! Everyone was so scared of Hildi. Right?? So I first set out on a search for modern floral decor, and found some striking and inspiring photos:

It seems that 90’s wallpaper is firmly in the past where it belongs, and florals are coming back with a vengeance. Armed with all that inspiration, I came up with a modern floral mood-board of my own. AND, it’s for a floral themed bathroom. Consider it my take on Hildi’s creation.

To keep it modern and fun, I paired floral patterns in the artwork, rug, and accessories, with bold graphic patterns and black and white accents. I also threw in some natural elements, in the drift-wood mirror and live plants, that help keep it from being too cold.

I think the key with modern floral patterns is not worrying about getting too matchy-matchy. The element that ties everything together is color, rather than the same matching pattern in several places. Adding different textures throughout also helps to bring to mind the natural beauty of floral patterns when seen in nature- not too precise or repetitive.

So that’s my take on a updated floral-themed bathroom. I hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks again to Cassity & the Bekob team for having me here today. I look forward to being back again next month with more inspiration and another mood board for you!
