Our next Holiday Guest Series feature is from a lovely blogger who came up with a brilliant solution to a problem in her master bathroom: what do you do for both privacy and a vanity mirror when you have a window above your bathroom sink? Cheryl’s solution was this direct but brilliant sliding mirror over the window:

Master Bathroom Remodel with Sliding Mirror over the Window
by Cheryl from Since I Became a Mom
My name is Cheryl and I blog over at Since I Became a Mom. I mainly write about motherhood, everyday faith, and when I see the two intertwine like in this post. I also throw in a little photography and updates on remodeling our home. (Join me on Facebook to follow along.)
My husband and I always wanted to update a home Handmade-style. So, when we found a priced-right-but-in-need-of-TLC house we liked, we grabbed it. It’s been a lot of fun (and a lot of work) to make things our own. Here’s what we’ve finished so far: kitchen (Including barnwood countertops and refacing our fireplace); master bedroom (We refinished the hardwood floors found under the carpet); the downstairs bathroom (We added character with a cute built in shelf); and screened-in porch. We’ve also finished our downstairs basement, but pictures are not posted yet. And we are almost done with our sons’ bedrooms.
Today, I get to share with you our master bathroom remodel, and specifically how we created a sliding mirror across the window.

And the bathroom done:
For our previous projects, we did most or all of the work ourselves. But for this master bathroom remodel, we hired out quite a bit. (Electrician, plumber, tiling the shower, taping the sheet rock, and replacing the popcorn ceiling with knockdown texture.) The sliding mirror, however, was our baby.
At first, we couldn’t figure out what do about the large window located in the ideal space for a mirror. (We love the natural light, but…) I had seen a picture of a mirror hung on an extended piece of wood over the center of a bathroom window. I thought it looked creative and fun, but my husband didn’t like that the window was permanently blocked. We were indecisive and couldn’t come up with a solution, so we did what we thought was best: we procrastinated and put the whole thing off. For like a year. But all that time to think provided us with a solution. We settled on creating a mirror that slides across the window.
First, we found a lightweight mirror.
Next, we found a curtain rod we liked and hung it. We used a double curtain rod instead of a single one because we wanted options. We can always hang a curtain behind the mirror or a second mirror behind the first to cover the rest of the window.
We then needed to attach the mirror to these curtain rings that came with clips. We removed the clips with needle-nose pliers and used small screws and washers to attach the rings to the mirror. Then, we slid the rings onto the rod and our sliding mirror assembly was complete.
We bought this mirror at Target for $50. Then the other materials and items for our bathroom we found here (Our go-to being the tile floor. I would love to do an entire room in that striking grey tile.):
Floor TileShower Tile and Accent Tile
Vanity and Tall Linen Cabinet
Lights
Glass Shower and Shower Base
Curtain Rod and Rings (find similar curtain rods here and curtain rings here)
Paint Color: Glidden Fostoria Glass Blue We are happy with how the bathroom turned out and especially our sliding mirror. Well, except for when my husband messes with me and slides it away when I’m trying to get ready. In those moments, I do kind of wish the mirror was permanent. —————————————————
