Hello it is me again, Vidya from Whats Ur Home Story here to share a quick and straightforward project option. The word on my mind this year is Organize. Be it in the kitchen, laundry, or closet a little bit of organization goes a long way. And as you all know baskets are a great away to store/hide away things around the home. But they can be expensive at times especially if you want to go for a custom look. That’s when a little bit of creativity and lots of spray paint come to play.
Don’t these painted storage baskets remind you of hat boxes?
In their previous life they used to be holiday drum baskets that I snagged off the clearance aisle at Michaels for $2-$3 each!
First off I removed the gold tacks and string from all the baskets. As expected they came off pretty easily.
I then brushed on a coat of Kilz primer and they were already starting to look updated. I used a brush on primer instead of the spray can as I wanted to make sure that the paint got into all the nooks and crannies of the baskets.
A thorough coat of White Rust-Oleum Paint + Primer later they were ready for their Gold hardware. To give the baskets a custom look I added chalkboard labels, again from Michaels. Think they were a buck each. If you have some extra time on hand you could make them yourself with a small piece of wood, chalkboard paint, and some jute yarn. Instead of writing on them I just free handed pictures of the mittens, scarf, and a hat.
These boxes are now gracing my newly finished coat closet.
