Waves and curls are the way to go when you want a hairstyle that’s fun, flirty, and has great texture. But curls and waves that look good and last can be hard to achieve! Use these tutorials to get wavy hair or curly hair for more strong locks in less time.
1. Basic curling

This is a basic curling walkthrough that will teach you how to get curls that look more like the ones you see in magazines. Be sure to use a heat protector and the right size curling iron – big, lush curls require a curling iron that’s about an inch in diameter.
2. Curling in sections

If the basic curling walkthrough has you a little overwhelmed, try this technique and curl your hair in four different sections. Simply pin two sections up while draping the bottom two over either of your shoulders and curl one portion at a time. Give your hair a little shake to blend all four sections when you finish.
3. Curl and twist

You may have a problem getting your curls to really stick. Aside from using some good hair products, this method might get you what you need. Curl your hair the way you normally would but twist each curl while it’s still hot and bobby pin them to your head as you go. Let them cool completely and then let them down and give them a good shake and a little hairspray.
4. Overnight twists

Beach waves are all the rage and there are many ways to get them. This walkthrough requires no heat and works best on hair that is slightly damp when you start. Leave it overnight, texturize it a bit in the morning, and you’re good to go.
5. Flat-iron waves

A flat-iron can do more than just straighten hair. This walkthrough shows you how to get a slightly different style of big waves and suggests a couple of products to use to get maximum staying power.
6. Quick beach waves

You don’t have to wait all night to get beach waves. Divide your hair into smaller sections, twist, and pin them to your head. Use a blowdryer to dry each section if you want your hair ready to go within 20 minutes, or leave them in overnight to air dry.
7. Ponytail curls

This is a great way to make curling quicker and easier. Pull your hair up into a loose ponytail and curl the ends. Let the ponytail loose when you’re done and your fresh curls will naturally fall into place. You can also do this with two pigtails if your hair is thicker or you need a little more structure.
8. Overnight braid waves

Overnight braids are the old-fashioned way to get waves and there isn’t anything quite like them. You can try one braid, two braids, or several braids depending on what size waves you prefer. French braids will give you waves all the way to the top of your hair but basic braids get great results too.
9. Flat-iron curls

As previously mentioned, flat-irons are versatile tools! This walkthrough demonstrates how to use one to get nice textured curls on short hair.
10. Sock bun curls

You’ve probably heard of this no-heat method. There’s a reason it’s so popular! It’s clearly straightforward, you can sleep on it for quick hair in the morning, and the only thing you need is an (clean!) old sock.
11. Quick braid waves

Here’s another way to get waves in a hurry! Separate slightly damp hair into several sections (more if your hair is thick) and braid each one. Blow the braids dry, use a straightener to heat them one at a time, then let them loose.
