Easiest Candy Cane Wreath walkthrough
Make this direct Handmade candy cane wreath in just a few minutes!
Materials
- 18 regular-sized candy canes, wrapped
- Ribbon for hanging
- Embellishments for center of wreath (I used a dollar store plastic snowflake and glitter bow for 2 different wreaths)
- Hot glue sticks and hot glue gun
Add a couple boxes of candy canes to your next grocery pickup order and you’ll be ready to craft!

Step 1: Make Candy Cane Hearts
Yes, a direct heart shape is what starts this snowflake shape candy cane wreath!
Take two of your candy canes, add two beads of hot glue to one candy cane at the curved tip and the tip of the long end, and press to the second candy cane until dry.
The candy canes will be form a heart shape when you’re done, connected at the top crooks and the long stems.

Repeat with the remaining pairs of candy canes, giving you 9 heart shapes. I did this step on a piece of parchment paper so that the candy canes didn’t stick to anything.
Step 2: Glue Candy Canes Together
Place the candy cane heart shapes into a circle wreath shape (see image). Glue candy canes together along the long stems, moving clockwise, until all candy canes are attached to each other and form a complete circle.

Let dry.
Step 3: Decorate
Hot glue an embellishment in the middle of your wreath. This makes it even more decorative while also helping secure the candy canes so the wreath holds its shape. You can use a dollar store snowflake, bow, or other ornament. A large flat surface helps when gluing it to the wreath. Greenery with evergreens and red berries (and maybe a few pinecones!) looks nice, too.

Step 4: Add Ribbon Hanger
Use scissors to cut a piece of ribbon the right length for hanging. Loop the ribbon through one of the candy cane curves and tie a bow or hot glue the ends of the ribbon together.

Doesn’t this candy cane look so festive and fun! It will look great on the door or anywhere you would hang a wreath! Make a bunch to hang on your kitchen cabinets or to share with friends and neighbors.
Candy Cane Wreath FAQs
How can I make sure my candy canes stay glued together?
Use high-quality hot glue, in either a low-temp or high-temp glue gun.
If you’re still concerned about the candy canes staying together, twist floral wire or pipe cleaners around the connection points, or tie the candy canes together with ribbon. A festive color adds extra holiday cheer to this candy cane Christmas wreath!
Can I use plastic candy canes?
Of course! Plastic candy canes are a great way to ensure that your candy cane wreath can be used outdoors without the sugar melting with moisture, and your wreath will last for years. These are just as affordable as the real thing, too.
How can I hang a candy cane wreath?
A loop of ribbon is a great way to hang this lightweight wreath. For a wall full of candy cane wreaths to look like snowflakes, use clear removable hooks like this as hangers. To hang from the ceiling, reinforce the wreath with an embellishment on each side and hang with string or ribbon.
Where can I decorate with a candy cane wreath?
Anywhere you’d put a regular wreath is a great place for a candy cane wreath. Because the candy canes are thin and striped, it helps to have your snowflake candy cane wreath hung on a solid background so they stand out. You can hang a candy cane wreath:
- on a door (including a pantry door, or every door in the house!)
- on kitchen cabinet doors
- in a grouping as a photo backdrop or large display
- hang from the ceiling like a sugary winter wonderland
Can I eat a candy cane wreath?
Yes… mostly. The hot glue will melt a little bit of the wrapper and possibly a little bit of the candy cane itself, so just be sure that the candy cane you want to eat is clean and free of glue. (Or, use the alternate assembly methods above to ensure that candy canes are intact to eat!)
