Why This is a Great Fall Dollar Tree Craft

Fall is a season filled with warmth, color, and coziness. Crafting your own Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath is a fantastic way to infuse your home decor with the spirit of fall. Here are two reasons why this project is well fitted for autumn:

1. Vibrant Colors: Fall is all about the rich and vibrant colors of changing leaves and harvest. The faux sunflowers and fuzzy ball flowers used in this wreath project mimic the warm and inviting hues of the season, creating a visually strong and welcoming decor piece for your home.

2. modest-cost-Friendly: Fall decor can sometimes be expensive, but with this Dollar Tree Handmade project, you can achieve a striking and festive wreath without breaking the bank. All the supplies needed can be found at Dollar Tree, making this craft not only enjoyable but also incredibly affordable. This would be a great craft for older kids, too!

And bonus: this wreath needs no bow! I’m terrible at tying bows so I don’t have to worry about getting a nice looking bow for this floral wreath.

How to Make the Wreath: Step-by-Step walkthrough

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of crafting your Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath. Follow these direct steps to create a strong fall decor piece.

Materials For Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath Handmade Bekob

Materials You’ll Need

  • 18-inch wire wreath form (Dollar Tree)
  • 2 spools of Black and White wired ribbon (Dollar Tree)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors (for the ribbon/flowers)
  • 2 bushels of orange sunflowers (Dollar Tree)
  • 2 bushels of yellow sunflowers (Dollar Tree)
  • 1 bunch of fall white fuzzy ball flowers (Dollar Tree)*
  • Wire cutters (optional)

*If you can’ find the fuzzy ball flowers, grab a leftover stem or wood skewer and sub in cotton pods (from the floral section) or make your own lookalikes by making cream yarn pom poms. Here’s our trick for making a bunch of pompoms fast.

Instructions

Step 1: Wrap the Wreath Form

Start by adding some hot glue to the end of the wire ribbon and secure it to the backside of the wreath form, then wrap the wired ribbon around the wreath, overlapping it a little bit as you go around the wreath form. I only used one spool of wired ribbon but if you want a fuller look than I would use 2 spools.

Step 2: Add the Sunflowers

I then popped the sunflowers off of the stems, added hot glue to the backside of the flower center and then firmly pressed them onto the ribbon section so they were securely attached. Be sure not to get glue on the petals so that they fluff up naturally.

I removed all the greenery from the blooms, and then added in a few just to the top and bottom of the sunflower bunch.

Step 3: Add the Fuzzy Balls

I then popped the fuzzy ball flowers off of the stem, added a dab of hot glue to the end and then fed it through the sunflower section to secure it to the top and bottom section of the wreath.

Creative Sunflower Wreath options

While the basic Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath is strong on its own, you can add your personal touch to create variations that suit your style and preferences. Here are a few options to change it up a bit:

  • Seasonal Ribbons: Swap the black and white ribbon for other fall-themed patterns or colors (like a white polka dot ribbon!) to give your wreath a unique look. Get creative with other materials, too — bandana strips, burlap ribbon or deco mesh would add additional texture and pattern, too.
  • Mix and Match Flowers: Experiment with different flower combinations. You can add red or burgundy flowers to create a more diverse color palette.
  • Embellishments: Consider adding pinecones, feathers, acorns, or faux berries to give your wreath a woodland touch.
  • Custom Sign: Attach a small, customized wooden sign in the center of your wreath with a welcoming message or your family’s name for a personal touch. Follow this walkthrough to make a quick and straightforward custom wood sign.

Common Questions about Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath

Here are some common questions people have when making a Dollar Tree Sunflower Wreath:

Can I use a different wreath form size?

Yes, you can use a different size, but keep in mind that the number of sunflowers and ribbon length may need to be adjusted accordingly.

You can also swap the wire wreath form for a grapevine wreath or straw wreath form, too, if that’s what you have on hand.

Can I use a different type of glue instead of a hot glue gun?

While hot glue is recommended for its strong bond, you can use other types of craft glue, but it may require more drying time. If you’re in a hurry and don’t have hot glue, you could use zip ties, pipe cleaners, or florist wire to attach the flowers to the wire wreath frame, but that’s a less exact placement than glue.

How do I store my wreath after the fall season?

Store your striking sunflower wreath in a cool, dry place, ideally in a wreath storage box or a plastic container to protect it from dust and damage.
