Celebrating Gratitude: Our Heartfelt Thanksgiving Reflection
As the vibrant colors of autumn begin to fade and the crisp air signals the arrival of winter, we often find ourselves reflecting on the bounty of the past year. Even if a little belated, I sincerely hope that each of you enjoyed a truly wonderful Thanksgiving Day. Whether spent in the warm embrace of family, surrounded by cherished friends, or simply relishing a well-deserved day of rest, I trust it was a time filled with joy, comfort, and perhaps a moment of quiet contemplation for all the blessings in your lives.
Thanksgiving, at its core, is more than just a feast; it’s an opportunity to pause, connect, and express genuine appreciation. It’s a precious reminder to count our blessings, big and small, and to nurture the relationships that enrich our existence every single day. For us, this year’s celebration was particularly memorable, brimming with laughter, delicious food, and the kind of heartfelt camaraderie that truly makes the holidays special.
A Gathering of Hearts and Flavors
Justin and I had the absolute pleasure of heading over to our dear friends, Matt and Emily’s, for what turned out to be an unforgettable Thanksgiving dinner. Their home was filled with warmth, the scent of seasonal spices, and an atmosphere of pure conviviality. We love contributing to potluck-style celebrations, as it allows everyone to showcase their culinary talents and share a piece of their tradition. This year, we enthusiastically rolled up our sleeves and brought a few cherished creations to the table.
One of my proudest contributions was my very first attempt at making a Lemon Meringue Pie. This wasn’t just any recipe; it was my Momma’s recipe, passed down through generations, and let me tell you, it truly is the very best ever. There’s something profoundly comforting about recreating a dish from your childhood, especially one so deeply tied to family gatherings and special occasions. The delicate balance of tart lemon filling, the flaky, buttery crust, and the towering, perfectly toasted meringue – each element came together to create a dessert that was not only visually stunning but tasted like a sweet embrace of home. The process was a labor of love, from zesting the lemons to whipping the egg whites into stiff peaks, but seeing the joy it brought to everyone’s faces made every moment worthwhile. It’s more than just a pie; it’s a slice of cherished family history.
Justin, with his characteristic enthusiasm for baking, took on the task of making some truly Beautiful Rolls. He was particularly inspired this year, trying to channel the legendary rolls made by our friends, the Howell’s, from North Carolina. Their rolls are famous among our circle, known for their perfect texture and irresistible flavor. While we didn’t have the Howell’s secret recipe in hand, Justin improvised brilliantly, leaning on his own mother’s trusted recipe. The result was a basket full of golden-brown, fluffy rolls, perfectly soft on the inside with just the right amount of chew. They were an instant hit, quickly disappearing from the bread basket, testament to Justin’s baking prowess and his ability to infuse every dish with a touch of personal flair. There’s a special kind of magic that happens when food becomes a conduit for shared memories and a tribute to the people who taught us to cook.

A Dash of Holiday Whimsy
No gathering with Justin is complete without a healthy dose of fun and unexpected moments. True to form, he decided he wanted to dress up a bit for the occasion, primarily to surprise the kids with his playful spirit. His initial idea was simply to put on a funny hat or an amusing accessory, which he thought would be quite hilarious. However, I couldn’t resist jumping on board and adding my own creative twist to his transformation. What started as a simple costume idea quickly escalated when I suggested, and then convinced him, to put on some vibrant lipstick!
Let’s just say his excitement for the “dress-up” dramatically shifted at that point. The initial burst of playful enthusiasm gave way to a look of mild apprehension, but he was a good sport about it. Watching him navigate the evening with bright red lips, trying to maintain a straight face while interacting with the unsuspecting children, was absolutely priceless. I had an immense amount of fun orchestrating the little prank, and it certainly added an extra layer of unforgettable hilarity to our Thanksgiving celebration. These are the spontaneous, joyful moments that truly define our holidays and create lasting memories for everyone involved.

A Heart Full of Thanks: Our Three Blessings
During our Thanksgiving dinner, we observed a beautiful tradition: each person shared three things they were particularly thankful for. It’s a wonderful exercise in mindfulness and gratitude, encouraging us to articulate the blessings in our lives. Inspired by this thoughtful practice, I want to do the same here, reflecting on some of the most profound sources of joy and contentment that fill my heart, in no particular order of significance, as each holds immense value.
First, my incredible family!
At the very top of my list is my family, the bedrock of my happiness and strength. My sweet husband, Justin, truly is the best partner I could ever dream of. He is not just a fun and loving man, but also incredibly caring, always putting others first. His unwavering support, his infectious humor, and his boundless affection make every day an adventure and every challenge surmountable. We navigate life’s journey together with mutual respect, deep love, and a shared sense of purpose. I adore both my parents and Justin’s parents; they are truly wonderful people who have shaped us into who we are today through their wisdom, love, and endless sacrifices. Their guidance and unconditional support have been invaluable. And of course, my heart swells with gratitude for all of my brothers and sisters, and their adorable children. Life would feel utterly empty without their vibrant presence, their laughter, their camaraderie, and the unique bond we share. Family gatherings are always loud, chaotic, and filled with an energy that is uniquely ours – a testament to the strong connections that bind us. They are my biggest cheerleaders, my confidantes, and my most treasured companions.
Second, the blessings of recent changes and newfound happiness!
I am profoundly thankful for how Justin and I have been so remarkably taken care of through all our recent life changes. Life often presents us with unexpected turns, and navigating these transitions can be daunting. Yet, through it all, we have been blessed immensely, never wanting for anything essential and always finding solutions and support when needed. This period has brought us to a place of greater happiness and fulfillment than we have ever known. I truly believe that contentment comes from within, but also from the environment we cultivate around us.
A significant part of this newfound joy stems from my current lifestyle of staying home. I honestly have never had so much fun in my life as I do right now. The ability to manage our home, to be present, and to pour my energy into creative pursuits has been a revelation. Every night, I find immense satisfaction in preparing a healthy, delicious dinner from scratch, a simple pleasure that nourishes both body and soul. Beyond the domestic joys, this period has allowed me to delve into project after project, some small, some ambitious. I’ve been dusting off a few of my long-held dream ambitions, particularly one that involves writing a book. Who knows when it will get done? The creative process is often unpredictable, but I am committed to making progress. I understand the importance of setting milestones, so I need to give myself a few due dates to keep the momentum going. This journey of self-discovery, creativity, and focused work has been incredibly rewarding, proving that sometimes, stepping away from the conventional path can lead to the most profound personal growth and happiness.
Third, for my Father in Heaven and His divine plan!
Finally, and most profoundly, I am eternally grateful for my Father in Heaven and the magnificent plan He has for us. This spiritual foundation provides immense comfort, unwavering guidance, and a sense of enduring purpose in my life. Knowing that there is a divine blueprint, a loving intention behind our existence and experiences, brings unparalleled peace. It helps me navigate challenges with hope, celebrate triumphs with humility, and face the unknown with faith. This belief system imbues every aspect of my life with deeper meaning and reminds me that I am part of something far greater than myself. It grounds me in gratitude, encourages me to live with compassion, and inspires me to strive for goodness in all my endeavors. This spiritual connection is the ultimate source of strength and serenity, anchoring me through life’s currents and reminding me of the profound, unconditional love that surrounds us all.
As we move forward from the Thanksgiving season, let us carry this spirit of gratitude in our hearts. May we continue to appreciate the people who brighten our lives, the opportunities that enrich our experiences, and the quiet blessings that often go unnoticed. Every day is an opportunity to express thanks, to connect with loved ones, and to find joy in the journey. What are you most thankful for?
