Farmhouse Bedroom Makeover: Before and After

Submitted by Laurie Anna Vintage Home

Last week, my husband and I were busy sourcing unique finds for our shop in Atlanta. During our absence, I had scheduled a post showcasing the bedroom makeover from our Farmhouse on Main. I certainly didn’t expect the incredible response it received!

Upon our return, I was absolutely amazed by the outpouring of support. The farmhouse bedroom transformation generated nearly 100 comments and a significant surge in Pinterest activity. My Pinterest following experienced a noticeable increase almost overnight. Thank you all so much for your incredible enthusiasm; it’s truly overwhelming!

If you haven’t already, I invite you to connect with me on Pinterest here, where I share even more inspiration and glimpses into our farmhouse life.

My blog is a deeply personal space for me. While it’s connected to my business, it represents so much more. It’s a platform for sharing ideas, connecting with fellow home decor enthusiasts, and building a community around our shared love for vintage finds and farmhouse style.

The thoughtful words and willingness to share your thoughts through comments and emails truly bring me immense joy. Knowing that my projects inspire others and spark conversations is incredibly rewarding.

I genuinely enjoy sharing our little farmhouse with you all, and I have a plethora of exciting projects lined up for future posts. Currently, I’m immersed in transforming our living room, and I’m taking it in a bold new direction! I can’t wait to share the progress with you.

Last week’s bedroom reveal was more extensive than I initially anticipated, so I decided to dedicate a separate post to the “before and after” photos. Seeing the dramatic transformation side-by-side offers a unique perspective on the design process.

So, without further ado, let’s dive into the transformation!

Answering Your Questions: Farmhouse Bedroom Edition

In addition to the wonderful comments I received, I also received a number of emails with specific questions about the room’s design and details. I’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions and provided answers below.

Paint Colors: Achieving the Perfect Farmhouse Hue

What paint colors did you use for this room?

Walls: “Steamed Milk” by Sherwin Williams

Trim: “Alabaster” by Sherwin Williams

Selecting the right paint colors is crucial for creating the desired ambiance in any room. “Steamed Milk” provides a warm and inviting backdrop, while “Alabaster” offers a crisp and clean contrast for the trim. These colors work together harmoniously to create a classic farmhouse aesthetic.

Bedding: Mixing and Matching for a Collected Look

Did you custom make the bedding?

No, the bedding is a mix of several different lines that I carry in my Shoppe. Since the color of all the bedding is whites, creams, and tans, mixing up the textures and shades instead of keeping it “matchy matchy” gave it more depth and the feel of being collected over time.

Creating a visually appealing bedding arrangement doesn’t require custom-made pieces. By mixing and matching different textures and shades within a cohesive color palette, you can achieve a unique and collected look that adds depth and character to your bedroom.

Ceiling Color: The Power of Finish

Is the ceiling painted a different color than the walls?

No, the ceiling color is the same color as the walls, but the walls are satin finish and the ceiling is flat. The difference in the finish and the lighting makes it look like a different shade.

The finish of the paint can significantly impact the perceived color. By using the same color in different finishes, you can create subtle variations that add visual interest and depth to the room. In this case, the flat finish on the ceiling absorbs more light, making it appear slightly different from the satin finish on the walls.

Curtains and Rods: Simple Elegance

Where did you get the curtains and curtain rods?

I sell the Farmhouse curtains at my Shoppe, and the curtain rods came from Wal-mart.

You don’t need to spend a fortune to achieve a stylish window treatment. Simple and elegant curtains paired with affordable curtain rods can create a charming farmhouse look.

Furniture: Antique Treasures

Are the bed and desk antique, and are they for sale?

Yes, the bed is an antique and the desk is a repurposed piece made from an antique stable door and antique iron sink legs.

Neither are for sale…..at least not just yet. 🙂

Antique furniture adds character and history to any space. Repurposing vintage pieces, like the desk made from a stable door and sink legs, creates a unique and eye-catching focal point.

Horse Prints: A Touch of Equestrian Charm

Are the horse prints for sale and are they old?

The horse prints are reproductions, I found them a couple years ago and carried them in the Shoppe for a while. They have since been discontinued, but I’m trying to get my hands on more.

Adding equestrian-themed artwork can instantly elevate the farmhouse aesthetic. While the original prints may be difficult to find, reproductions offer a similar visual appeal.

The Barn Door: A DIY Project in the Making

And the number one question…… How did you hang the barn door?

I will share all the details including “how to” photos in an upcoming post. Hubster is reluctantly helping me with the post….blogging is not his thang!

The barn door is undoubtedly a standout feature of this farmhouse bedroom. Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I’ll share a detailed “how-to” guide, complete with photos, on how to hang a barn door yourself. Even my husband is getting involved!

Creating Your Own Farmhouse Retreat

I hope this before and after transformation and the answers to your questions have inspired you to create your own cozy and inviting farmhouse retreat. Remember that it’s about creating a space that reflects your personal style and makes you feel comfortable and at home.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different textures, colors, and vintage finds to achieve a unique and collected look. And most importantly, have fun with the process! Transforming your bedroom into a farmhouse oasis should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
