This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Marianne, a valued member who sought advice on transforming her living room. Marianne faced a common challenge: integrating functional workspaces – specifically her existing printer’s desk and a new computer desk – into her living room without sacrificing style or making the space feel cramped. She courageously turned to the collective wisdom of her fellow Remodelaholics for guidance, and the results are truly spectacular!
The Remodelaholic community, a truly creative and talented group, responded with an outpouring of fantastic suggestions. Marianne embraced this advice, embarking on a thoughtful process to redefine her living area. Here’s what Marianne shared about her gorgeous new layout:
“I received so many fantastic suggestions, and it genuinely helped me focus and avoid feeling overwhelmed! I started by incorporating an accent chair to assess how much it would fill the space before committing to a new desk. This strategic first step allowed me to visualize the room’s balance. Following that, I ordered a beautiful desk/table from World Market. Embracing the community’s collective advice, I strategically moved the printer’s desk to the center of the wall, creating a more cohesive and intentional arrangement. To further refine the aesthetic, I updated the artwork to something with a more architectural quality and a less vibrant color palette, fostering a serene atmosphere. I purchased empty frames and had architectural images printed – initially intending to hang them vertically, but they looked so appealing horizontally that I just hung them sideways! I still need to make a final decision on the art, but the general direction is clear. A significant portion of the transformation involved editing out unnecessary clutter – dog crate, various craft projects, and general ‘junk’ that had accumulated. I’m still contemplating the perfect area rug; the current one is tucked under the printer’s desk, so I’m holding off until I find the ideal replacement. I also have a better light fixture chosen, just waiting to order it. The stunning photograph you see was skillfully captured by realtor/photographer Tyson Barnes, and it’s leaps and bounds better than my iPhone photos! I utilize this room every single day, and I absolutely adore how I’ve managed to incorporate so much more furniture without making it feel overcrowded. I believe the open-leg design of the new desk played a crucial role in preventing the space from appearing too heavy or congested.”
