The wait is finally over! We’re unveiling the stunning results of this laundry closet redo. For those who have been following along, you might remember the sneak peek with the Italian Inspired Chalkboard and the fun printable shared earlier. Now, it’s time to see the complete transformation!
Prepare to be amazed by the before and after photos. The “before” was, shall we say, less than inspiring. But with a little creativity, hard work, and a keen eye for detail, this laundry closet has been completely transformed into a space that’s both functional and visually appealing.
The Before: A Laundry Closet Nightmare
Let’s be honest, the “before” picture wasn’t pretty. Imagine a half-painted room, courtesy of the previous owners, with paint splotches and uneven lines. It looked like they simply used leftover paint from the rest of the house and haphazardly applied it to the walls. The open shelving didn’t help matters, contributing to a cluttered and disorganized appearance. It was difficult to keep things tidy when everything was on display.

It was a space that lacked inspiration and made the daunting task of laundry even less appealing. The old laminate peel-and-stick tiles on the floor certainly didn’t enhance the aesthetic either. Something had to be done!
The Transformation Begins: Cleaning and Painting
The first step in this amazing laundry closet makeover was to completely empty the space. Everything had to go, including the washing machine and dryer. Fortunately, this was before the infamous “attack of the evil washer” incident!
With the closet cleared out, the real work could begin. The entire room was painted in a glossy white paint purchased from Habitat for Humanity. The glossy finish brightened up the space and provided a clean, fresh canvas for the rest of the makeover.
A fun fact: despite being thrilled with the paint, it ended up in the renovator’s hair for days! A small price to pay for a beautifully transformed laundry closet, right?
Adding Character: The Stenciled Wall
To add visual interest and character to the laundry closet, a quatrefoil stencil was used to create a patterned accent wall. The stencil was found online with a simple Google search, printed out, and carefully cut out. This was arguably the most tedious part of the entire project, requiring the renovator to stand on top of the washer and dryer to reach the upper portion of the wall.
Using Sherwin Williams ‘Krypton,’ a beautiful blue-gray color, the quatrefoil pattern was carefully stenciled onto the back wall. This process involved meticulously positioning the stencil, applying the paint, and then repeating the process across the entire wall. The effort definitely paid off, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space.

DIY Cabinet Door Signs: A Touch of Whimsy
To add a touch of personality and organization to the laundry closet, custom cabinet door signs were created for the spaces above the washer and dryer. This simple DIY project is easy to replicate and makes a big difference in the overall look and feel of the space.
The process involved starting with plain white cabinet doors and painting them in an espresso brown color. The desired words were then printed on white vinyl and carefully applied to the painted doors. A light sanding added a touch of rustic charm to the signs. These little signs are not only functional but also add a whimsical touch to the laundry closet.

The Final Reveal: A Stunning Transformation
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Behold the transformed laundry closet. It’s hard to believe it’s the same space as the “before” picture. The white paint, stenciled wall, and custom cabinet door signs have completely transformed the look and feel of the closet.

But it’s not just about aesthetics. The laundry closet is now much more functional and organized. A vintage Brinks box adds a touch of character while providing a secure place to store valuables. Small yellow wooden bowls are used to collect loose change.

Organization and Storage Solutions
To maximize storage and organization, the plain Walmart storage box from the “before” pictures was given a makeover. Scrapbook paper was measured, cut, and Mod Podged into the inside of the drawers, adding a pop of color and pattern. This simple DIY project transformed an ordinary storage box into a stylish and functional organizational tool.

Without built-in cabinets, creative storage solutions were necessary. Brown and white baskets were used to store items without making the space look cluttered. Under-cabinet shelves from the Container Store help corral smaller items like dryer sheets and dog shampoo.
Small brown baskets from Michaels were glammed up with small frames (also from Michaels) and labeled with “B” for bathroom supplies and “A” for all-purpose items.

To elevate the everyday laundry experience, detergent was decanted into a cute jar from Hobby Lobby. A brown vinyl label was created with a Cricut, and a small scoop was added to the jar. The regular detergents sit on a blue tray, keeping them organized and in their place.

The Flooring Upgrade: From Laminate to Wood
A significant improvement was made by replacing the awful laminate peel-and-stick tiles with a beautiful wood floor. The wood floor adds warmth and sophistication to the laundry closet, completing the overall transformation.
