Spring Mantel: An Attempt at Renewal

Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas: A Beginner’s Guide

So, I’ve finally got a mantel – even if it’s a faux one! And after framing the TV, making it a little less of an eyesore, I thought it would be great to participate in a mantel decorating celebration. Getting into the spring spirit and decorating the mantel seemed like the perfect project.

The Challenges of Mantel Decorating

When I started decorating, I quickly realized I didn’t have as much mantel décor as I thought, especially when it came to items with varying heights. Most of my decorations were all about the same size. Plus, the mantel depth, which seemed sufficient during construction, could easily have been a few inches deeper. These are common challenges when tackling mantel decorating, especially for the first time.

Initial Mantel Decor Attempt

I felt like the final look was missing something. However, it’s my first attempt, and I’m more accustomed to using a hammer than arranging vases. But that’s what it’s all about – stepping outside of my comfort zone to try new things and learn new skills! Decorating a mantel is a great way to express creativity and experiment with different styles.

Adding Personal Touches with Flowers

One thing I definitely wanted to include were the roses my husband gifted me the previous weekend. The roses made a big impression. They were presented to me on stage by my daughter, Etta, during a performance. It was a heartwarming gesture, and I loved how happy she was to surprise me. These personal touches make decorating even more special.

I spent the whole weekend admiring the roses, and it made me realize how much I appreciate fresh flowers! And, I was also excited because the plants in my yard were starting to sprout leaves. Early that morning, Etta and I explored the yard, examining all the trees. The crepe myrtles had transformed overnight, covered in inch-long leaves. It was truly amazing to witness nature’s quick transformation.

Embracing Greenery and Natural Elements

Inspired by the blooming plants, I decided to incorporate more greenery into the mantel décor. While some may find it excessive, the green hues make me happy and bring a sense of freshness to the space. Greenery is a fantastic way to bring the outdoors in and create a vibrant atmosphere in your home.

Greenery can encompass a wide range of options from leafy branches in vases, to small potted plants, or even faux greens for a low-maintenance option. Mixing textures and shades of green can add depth and interest to your mantel display. Consider using trailing plants to soften the edges of the mantel, or incorporate succulents for a modern touch. The key is to find greenery that complements your personal style and enhances the overall aesthetic of your spring decor.

Beyond the visual appeal, incorporating greenery can also have positive effects on your well-being. Studies have shown that being around plants can reduce stress levels, improve air quality, and boost overall mood. So, not only will your spring mantel look beautiful, but it can also contribute to a healthier and happier home environment.

Adding Whimsical Touches with Bunnies

Knowing my daughters would adore them, I included two glittery bunny table toppers from a local store. Etta noticed them immediately upon entering the room, confirming my hunch! Sometimes, the simplest additions can bring the most joy and excitement, especially for children.

These glittery bunnies are a perfect example of incorporating seasonal themes without overwhelming the space. Easter is a time for celebration, and incorporating bunnies, eggs, or pastel colors can add a festive touch to your spring mantel. However, it’s important to strike a balance and avoid excessive clutter. Choose a few key pieces that complement your existing decor and add a touch of whimsy without overpowering the overall aesthetic.

Consider the size and placement of your Easter-themed items. Smaller items, such as the glittery bunnies, can be grouped together to create a focal point, while larger items may be better placed on the sides of the mantel to avoid blocking the view. Experiment with different arrangements until you find a look that you love. Remember, the goal is to create a spring mantel that reflects your personal style and brings joy to your home.

Beyond bunnies and eggs, there are many other ways to incorporate Easter themes into your mantel decor. Consider using pastel-colored candles, floral arrangements with spring blooms, or even a DIY banner with Easter-themed messages. The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity shine and create a spring mantel that celebrates the season in your own unique way.

Even just small additions like decorative eggs, pastel ribbons tied around candles, or small bird figurines can make a big difference. As long as it feels balanced and not too cluttered, go for the festive additions that best represent you and your home’s style.

Here are a few more pictures. The lighting was challenging due to the overcast day, so the photos aren’t the best, but I hope you can forgive me!

Dreaming of Easter Garlands

I would love to add an Easter garland. An egg garland would be fun, but with young children in the house, it would likely be torn down in an instant!

If I could, I would have added a scalloped burlap banner in light blue and white that I found on Etsy.

Or, I’ve been thinking about making one of these egg garlands. But I would need to find the plastic eggs that open on the side, as I don’t have time to make it from real eggs!
